Why Dundee

Where the big tides go out for miles

Dundee Beach is about two hours from Darwin and a world away. At low tide the flats run out to the horizon, the red cliffs light up at sunset, and the tavern fills with people who've been fishing here for decades. It's our favourite place to take guests, so it's in every week we run.

Come for the barra. Stay for the sunset and the stories.

Who we are

Two locals who love this country

Big Tide Country is Trevor Prior and Ness Myer. We were both born in Queensland, but the Territory is home to both of us, and there's nowhere else we'd rather be. We started Big Tide Country to show people the Top End the way we live it: early mornings on the water, long afternoons on red dirt roads, and good company at the end of the day.

Trevor PriorCo-Founder and Lead Guide

Trevor is a Yirrganydji man from North Queensland. He has lived in the Territory for more than 20 years, calls it home and can't see himself living anywhere else.

Country is very important to him. He cares about the land we walk on and wants to treat it with respect, treading lightly so future generations can enjoy it too. That is why we only take small groups. He loves sharing his local knowledge with guests.

He loves fishing, and he loves his NRL just as much. As a young fella, if it moved, he'd chase it, fight it or ride it. He boxed as a flyweight, picking up a few amateur titles, and never one to shy away from an adrenaline rush, he gave rodeo a few goes too.

He lives a quieter life these days, but his yarns from years on stations and working as a driller in remote parts of Australia are the stories you'll remember long after your trip.

Ness MyerCo-Founder and Guest Experience Manager

Ness spent her early years on a cattle property in Queensland, where she learned to ride, before settling in the Territory. Country and wide open spaces have always been part of her life, and after 20 years away, she has come home.

In Brisbane she built and ran her own hospitality businesses, from a much-loved vintage coffee caravan to high-end luxury accommodation. She has travelled widely, so she knows what makes a trip special.

She is a mum of three, and all her kids love country life as much as she does. Her heart is here, and she loves sharing the Territory with people from all over the world.

Plan your trip

Good to know

When do you run?

Through the Top End dry season, roughly May to October 2027. Bookings open on 13 January 2027, and priority list members get first pick of dates.

We've never done anything like this. Is that okay?

Absolutely. You don't need to have fished for barra or camped in the bush before. We plan every day, supply the fishing gear, drive you everywhere and tell you exactly what to pack. Two friends booking together is our favourite kind of group.

How big are the groups?

2 to 4 guests, and never more than 6. Small groups tread lightly on the land, so it stays special for the people who come after us. Pairs are always welcome: join a shared group or book any week private for two.

Who runs the other tours in my week?

We run the fishing, the pub run and the Dundee days ourselves. Anything else in your week is run by licensed local operators we know and trust. We book them and stay your contact throughout.

What do I need for the bush camp?

The sites are unpowered with no showers or toilets, so bring your own shower and toilet setup, water and bedding, and take your rubbish home with you. Flying in without a camper? Tell us when you register and we'll help you arrange campervan hire from Darwin. We'll soon be offering semi-permanent safari-style tents too.

Who drives on the pub run?

We do, and our driver doesn't drink. Guests must be 18 or over, buy their own drinks at each pub, and there's no drinking in the vehicle.

Is it safe to swim?

Only where NT Parks and Wildlife say it's open. Saltwater crocodiles live in Top End waters, and we follow croc safety advice every day.

How will booking work?

From 13 January you'll pay a deposit to hold your dates and the balance closer to your trip. Full booking terms will be published when bookings open.
